- Increasing Foreign Tourist Arrival in West Bengal
West Bengal stands at an important inflection point for inbound tourism: endowed with a singular combination of urban cultural capital (Kolkata), living heritage (Durga Puja, colonial architecture, literary and artistic traditions), biodiverse natural assets (the Sundarbans mangrove complex, Dooars, and Darjeeling’s tea-hill ecology), and emergent experiential products (homestays, culinary trails, heritage rail), the State has the latent capacity to substantially increase Foreign Tourist Arrivals (FTAs) — but doing so will require a tightly integrated, data-driven strategy that converts existing visitation into longer stays, spreads benefits beyond Kolkata, and builds resilience into destination management. Recent government data underscore both the opportunity and the task: official state-wise numbers and central compendia show that West Bengal recorded a marked rise in foreign visits in the immediate post-pandemic years and, according to state announcements and central releases, figures for 2023–24 placed West Bengal among the leading states in FTA counts (with state-level reported arrivals running into the hundreds of thousands and, as publicly reported by state officials, cumulative inbound visitor numbers reaching into the millions on an annual basis), which confirms that demand exists but is spatially concentrated and temporally peaky, for example around cultural festivals and the principal gateway’s seasonally high months. To translate those headline gains into sustainable, high-value inbound tourism, policymakers should view the challenge along three interlocking dimensions: demand shaping (market segmentation and promotion), supply readiness (connectivity, product quality, and regulatory facilitation), and governance & measurement (data systems, carrying-capacity controls and public–private partnerships). On demand, the empirical evidence from national FTA datasets demonstrates that source markets for India are dominated by a mix of long-haul high-yield countries (the United States, the United Kingdom, several European states, Australia) alongside strong regional feeder markets (Bangladesh, Nepal, Southeast Asia) — a reality that necessitates a two-track marketing effort: premium, experience-led campaigns targeted at long-haul leisure and cultural tourists (positioning West Bengal as a ‘city plus’ hub from which curated rural, wildlife and tea-hill extensions are a short, high-quality add-on) and proximity campaigns aimed at day-and-short-stay tourists from neighboring countries, leveraging cross-border connectivity and diaspora networks. Digital partnerships with global OTAs, targeted social media storytelling focused on signature experiences (Durga Puja immersion, Sundarbans guided eco-safaris with certified eco-guides, tea-estate homestays and Darjeeling Himalayan Railway journeys), and attractive combined fares/itineraries with carrier partners that make multi-stop itineraries (Kolkata → Bagdogra → Darjeeling/Siliguri → Dooars → Sundarbans) seamless will be more effective than generic brand advertising; evidence from travel trade and the Ministry’s periodic data releases shows that better visibility in source markets correlates strongly with increases in arrivals and longer average lengths of stay. Supply readiness requires decisive investment: improving the throughput and international connectivity of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport and strengthening onward daily air links to Bagdogra, upgrading selected state highways and last-mile road links, and expanding premium surface and rail options will reduce the friction that currently makes many foreign visitors treat Kolkata as a single-night gateway rather than a base for multi-day circuits; airport and aviation statistics indicate significant growth in passenger numbers in recent years, confirming potential capacity that can be translated into inbound growth if last-mile links and seamless transfers are enhanced. Equally, the State must accelerate the professionalization of the hospitality product in peripheral districts — a concentrated push to scale registered homestays with mandatory quality training, multilingual host guides and digital booking integration; incentives (matching grants, low-interest loans and tax concessions) for small and medium hotels to meet internationally recognized hygiene and sustainability standards; and the creation of curated interpretative centres and accredited guide services for sensitive destinations such as the Sundarbans — will raise the average spend per tourist and lengthen stays. From an environmental and social governance perspective, the State cannot pursue arrival growth at the cost of ecosystem integrity: the Sundarbans, for example, is an ecologically fragile UNESCO-adjacent landscape where unmanaged visitor volume could cause irreversible harm; therefore, instituting carrying-capacity frameworks, permit-based access with dynamic quotas, mandatory certified eco-guides, and revenuesharing mechanisms for local communities must be a core feature of any expansion plan, not an afterthought. Financing these improvements is feasible through blended approaches: central schemes (Swadesh Darshan, Special Assistance for Capital Investment), targeted state bond instruments for tourism infrastructure, and public–private partnerships for visitor centres, eco-lodges and premium transfer services will mobilize capital without overburdening public coffers; at the same time, modest subsidy windows for homestay entrepreneurs and local tour operators can catalyse supply side upgrades quickly and inclusively. Governance and measurement are the third critical axis: while the Ministry of Tourism produces annual and monthly FTA statistics, the State needs a near-real-time inbound tourism dashboard combining port-of-entry data, accommodation occupancy and district-level stay metrics to identify bottlenecks, measure marketing ROI, and track diffusion of benefits into non-urban districts; this data capability will also support demand management — for example, dynamic price signals or limited-slot festivals to reduce overcrowding during Durga Puja-peak weeks and to spread visitor flows across shoulder months. Practical, high-impact operational initiatives that follow from this strategy include: (1) developing a small set of “signature circuits” (Kolkata cultural + Shantiniketan arts + Santiniketan homestay; Kolkata + Darjeeling heritage railway + tea-estate stay; Kolkata + Sundarbans eco-safari) with pre-approved chains of quality suppliers and unified booking portals so foreign tour operators can sell turn-key experiences; (2) instituting a diaspora ambassador programme to leverage the large Bengali and Indian expatriate communities in the UK, US and Middle East for festivals and heritage events; (3) convening annual fam-trips for top-tier travel writers and global OTA curators tied to off-season months to flatten seasonality; (4) streamlining permissions for small, low-impact eco-lodges and experience operators through time-bound clearances and ‘green’ fast-lanes; and (5) launching a multilingual, SEO-optimized digital hub that bundles visa guidance, certified operator listings, climate-aware packing tips and real-time alerts for conservation-sensitive areas. In terms of metrics for success, West Bengal should move beyond counting arrivals to measuring average length of stay, per-capita foreign tourist expenditure, percentage of FTAs who take multi-destination circuits within the State, occupancy and revenue gains in tier-II and tier-III districts, and environmental impact indicators (visitor pressure per sensitive hectare in the Sundarbans, waste management compliance at key sites). Early wins are attainable: modest increases in onward connectivity and the professionalization of 500–1,000 homestays, combined with a focused international marketing campaign in three highest-yield source markets, could raise average length of stay by a day and push per-capita spending figures materially higher within 18–24 months. Politically and socially, the distributional benefits of such a strategy are attractive: homestays and guided experience packages channel tourism earnings directly into rural households and small enterprises rather than concentrating gains in a few urban hotels, aligning economic inclusion with conservation incentives when a share of fees supports local stewardship. Risks must be managed openly: uncontrolled growth could strain fragile ecosystems and urban infrastructure during festival surges, while overreliance on a small number of source markets would increase vulnerability to global demand shocks; both dangers reinforce the need for diversified source-market targeting and capacity controls. Finally, the timing for an ambitious push is propitious: national recovery in FTAs, recent increases in passenger volumes at Kolkata’s airport, and rising international interest in diversified India itineraries all create a policy window to act — but seizing it will require coordinated state leadership, quick operational reforms to reduce traveler frictions, and a data-driven, sustainability-first approach that turns West Bengal’s rich cultural and natural endowments into reliably produced, high-quality, and environmentally respectful experiences for foreign visitors.

- teamLab Phenomena Abu DhabiWill Open to the Public on 18 April Within Saadiyat Cultural District Abu Dhabi
Abu Dhabi, UAE — 25thFebruary 2025 : teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi will officially open its doors to the public in Saadiyat Cultural District Abu Dhabi on 18 April 2025, announced by the Department of Culture and Tourism—Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi), Miral, the leading creator of immersive destinations and experiences in Abu Dhabi, and art collective teamLab. The 17,000 sqm multi-sensory art experience is operated by Miral Experiences, a subsidiary of Miral, and will include massive transformative exhibits that take guests on a sensory-rich journey that transcends the ordinary. The exhibits engage sight, sound, and touch, encouraging guests to expand the way they feel, connect and interact with the world around them. Sitting at the intersection of art, science, and technology, the artworks do not exist independently—the environment creates various phenomena that become the artwork, offering a dynamic, ever-evolving guest experience, and ensuring that no two visits will be the same. HE Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of DCT Abu Dhabi, said: “Saadiyat Cultural District is a testament to Abu Dhabi’s commitment to preserving heritage while embracing a forward-looking vision. The District will convey a message of cultural diversity that will become more powerful over time, creating global connections, inspiring cultural exchange, and fostering new ways of thinking to support the region, the global South and the world. We believe in the diversity of artistic expression and teamLab is the perfect partner to provide immersive art experiences that push the boundaries of art and technology. Together, we are redefining what is possible—expanding our horizons and forging deeper connections in ways never seen before.” HE added: “Once opened, teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi will offer an immersive journey that sparks infinite curiosity and imagination in all who visit. At the intersection of art, technology, and nature, it will create a world of limitless wonder and creativity. Through these multi-sensory explorations, we are inspiring new generations of innovators, thinkers, and creators from Abu Dhabi and beyond.” A home for infinite curiosity teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi will feature a constantly transforming art experience unique to Abu Dhabi, conceived by the Tokyo-based art collective teamLab. The installationsare part of teamLab’s concept of ‘Environmental Phenomena’, created through an extensive experimentation process. Housed in a purpose-built structure, conceptualised and designed by teamLab Architects and realised by teamLab Architects and Abu Dhabi-based MZ Architects, teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi’s architecture will play an important role in providing the exhibits with an environment to evolve freely and organically. Toshiyuki Inoko, Founder of teamLab, said: “The artworks in teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi do not exist independently, but are created by the environment which produces the various phenomena that cause the artworks to exist. Up until now, things that humans have created have existed through matter, just like a rock, and have a stable structure in and of themselves. Unlike such things, the existence of the artworks in teamLab Phenomena are created by the environment. The environment produces the phenomena, and the environment maintains the existence of the structure. Let us call that existence environmental phenomena.” “Existence will be freed from matter that has previously been responsible for its existence. Elements like air, water, and light that permeate our daily lives are transformed by their environment into unique phenomena that will become the existence. The boundaries of that existence are ambiguous and continuous. Even if people break the artwork apart, the work will remain in existence as long as its environment is maintained. Conversely, if the environment is not maintained, the work will disappear. Perhaps, people’s consciousness will spread from existence itself to the environment. A rock will continue to exist even if it is placed in a sealed box isolated from the outside world, but life cannot maintain its existence if it is placed in such a closed box. Life is also an existence that is maintained by the environment. Life may be a miraculous phenomenon that emerges from a flow in an open and continuous world.” Experience massive transformative exhibits Guests will be immersed within a realm of creativity and innovation through a series of massive transformative exhibits. In Massless Suns and Dark Suns , spheres of light and darkness converge to challenge perceptions of reality. Radiant spheres of light appear as solid yet intangible entities; these spheres of light only exist in yourperception. As perspectives broaden, purple-blue spheres of darkness also emerge, as though darkness has been solidified. Touching the light of a sphere ignites an intense glow, triggering a harmonious ripple effect across neighbouring spheres. This artwork cannot exist on its own—its existence is a phenomenon created by its environment. Building upon the previous realm of light and darkness, Levitation Void introduces an order of energy at the centre of its space, a void that is born and maintained by its environment. The void rises to a new existence, one that hovers freely in the air—transcending the concept of a tangible object, levitating effortlessly in the middle of its space, neither grounded nor confined to a ceiling. When pushed, it may move or fall to the ground, but as if by instinct, it slowly rises again, repairing itself and remaining in a state of levitation. Tickets to enjoy teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi’s multi-sensory art experience can be purchased atwww.teamlababudhabi.com . Saadiyat Cultural District continues to grow teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi is a key addition to Saadiyat Cultural District Abu Dhabi, which upon completion will be the largest concentration of world-leading cultural and educational institutions in the world. The fruit of many months of painstaking efforts by the group's members, the origins of the song can be traced to August 2022, when Team AngelWolf conceived of a project that would bring the world together around a musical message of hope. These included music marketer Tobie Allen, writer-singers Anthony Touma and Varsha Vinn (writer & singer), choirmaster Rivaan Mager and his assistant Dusan Popovic, and music engineers Elvis Garagic and Sleiman Damien. The team then proceeded to hold auditions to recruit members for the inclusive choir for the performance in November 2023, drawing over 100 applications from singers with and without disabilities. The judges selected 17 singers, and post-rehearsals the song was finally recorded in More Studios with the final cut ready by March 2024. The result is an uplifting musical missive from Team AngelWolf to the world, a song that is accessible, inclusive and belongs to everyone, irrespective of their ability, age, gender, religion, nationality, etc. As testified by the composition of the team that produced it, Chasing Dreams is a song that has the ability to reconnect the global community to our shared humanity, something we often lose sight of under the pressures of everyday life. - Toronto-based Syrian-Lebanese Duo Kazdoura ReleasesNew Single ‘Khayal’, Exploring The ‘Shadow Existence’ of the Immigrant
UAE – 12November 2024: – Being an immigrant means many different things to many different people. As Toronto-based Syrian/Lebanese duo Kazdoura explore in their new single, ‘Khayal,’ one key issue is the often difficult ‘shadow existence’ of immigrants. The phrase ‘shadow existence’ describes the haunting and intense memories of war, displacement, and longing for a home left far behind, contrasted with an uncertain civic and social identity in their host country. Kazdoura brings that evocative message to life in their new single, ‘Khayal.’ The lyrics detail an immigrant’s fractured emotional state, while the music creates a connection that speaks directly to the listener. That connection is created by a Middle Eastern neo-psychedelic sound whose primary influence is the vibrant Turkish rock scene of the 1960s and 1970s. It features a groovy bass line, Middle Eastern guitar, electric sitar, synths, and soulful saxophone, complemented by enchanting vocal melodies in Syrian Arabic. ‘Khayal’ is the latest addition to Kazdoura's back catalogue. The cross-cultural Syrian Lebanese duo made their name with soulful renditions of Arabic fusion that are equal parts nostalgia and reinvention, often flawlessly blending Arabic with jazz, funk, soul, and trip-hop. The band was founded in the summer of 2020 by Syrian singer and songwriter Leen Hamo, who is passionate about classical Arabic music, and versatile jazz-trained Lebanese multi-instrumentalist Johnny Abou Chacra. Songwriter Leen, who has often stated that all her song lyrics are personal in origin, captures this mood perfectly when she says: “Those of us who had to leave our home country in the shadow of war are burdened by loss, loss that is far from one-dimensional; it is a loss of home, of community, of culture, of country, indeed, a loss of self and identity. Going by the feedback so far, we have successfully conveyed this to our audience, making for a shared emotional experience, which is, after all, what music is all about.” Kazdoura released their debut EP ‘Wain’ in June 2022. It was supported by major radio stations across North America, including CBC, CUIT, CKUA, and the Tracks from Abroad Podcast. The group is now recording a new album, which they expect to release in March 2025.

- Shri Suman Billa, inaugurates FHRAI Centre of Excellence for India's Tourism and Hospitality Sector
The Federation of Hotel and Restaurant Associations of India (FHRAI), the third largest hospitality association in the world, inaugurated its Centre of Excellence at the FHRAI office, marking an important step for the tourism and the hospitality sector in India. The inauguration was done by Shri. Suman Billa IAS, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, in the presence of senior industry leaders were also present at the inauguration. This centre of excellence has been established to further strengthen FHRAI's advocacy efforts. This CoE, a research arm, focuses on advancing knowledge, innovation, and excellence in the tourism and hospitality sector. This centre aims to serve as an industry think tank, conduct research and valuable insights. Its goal is to drive positive transformation within the industry and strategic relationships with policymakers. Suman Billa, IAS, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Tourism said, “ T he significance of research and data in the tourism industry cannot be overstated. Being in the sector which is vast and multifaceted, it is essential to have accurate and comprehensive data to inform our decisions. While government data provides a solid foundation, it often captures only one facet of the entire landscape. To truly understand the dynamics of the tourism and hospitality sectors, we must triangulate this data with insights from industry bodies, international organisations like the World Tourism Organization (WTO), and other reliable sources.” “The establishment of the Centre of Excellence is a welcome step in this direction. By pooling together various data sources, we can achieve a more robust understanding of our industry. This collaborative effort is not about competition; it’s about creating a comprehensive data ecosystem that benefits everyone involved. The Centre will play a vital role in generating analytical insights that can guide government policy and help us better support the industry. In turn, this will allow the government to take a fresh look at the sector, recognizing its true size and potential, and impact on employment and GDP. Ultimately, our goal is to build a data-driven framework that enhances the resilience and growth of the tourism industry as a whole, ensuring that it continues to thrive in an increasingly competitive global market ” he further added. Pradeep Shetty, President of FHRAI said, “ The establishment of the Centre of Excellence represents a significant milestone for the tourism and hospitality industry in India. This has been a long-standing desire of our federation, as we have often faced challenges when approaching the government regarding policy issues , regulatory bottlenecks, compliance burden, and the overall ease of doing business. One of the major gaps we identified was the lack of comprehensive data to support our claims and recommendations. With the Centre of Excellence, we aim to address this gap head-on. He further said, “This centre is not just about data collection; it’s about creating a framework for research that can support policy advocacy. With the help of this CoE, we will generate analytical data that will help us represent our industry more effectively to the government. Every concern and issue that our members face will now be backed by solid data, allowing us to present a more compelling case for the reforms we seek. Our goal is to uplift the standards of the hospitality sector and ensure that we are equipped to meet the evolving needs of both consumers and stakeholders. We believe this Centre will become a beacon of best practices, innovation, and excellence, benefiting not just our members but the entire industry and the millions of people who depend on it.” Garish Oberoi, Hotel and Restaurant Association of Northern India, “ The hospitality sector has always struggled with a lack of focused and reliable data, which hampers our ability to address policy bottlenecks effectively. The inauguration of the Centre of Excellence is a response to this need. It will serve as a crucial resource for gathering and analysing data specific to our industry.” Our initial focus will be on creating reports on the vital areas that impact our members across different regions. We understand that each state has unique challenges and requirements, which is why we are committed to conducting state-centric surveys and assessments. With the right personnel and resources in place, we aim to produce insightful white papers that will guide our advocacy efforts. This Centre will help us establish a strong foundation for data-driven decision-making, allowing us to present accurate information to both government bodies and stakeholders. This data will empower us to better represent the interests of our members and foster growth in the hospitality sector as a whole.” he further added. This inauguration of FHRAI’s centre of excellence marks a significant step forward towards the tourism and the hospitality industry. By focusing on research, training, and advocacy, this initiative aims to elevate industry standards and address key challenges faced by stakeholders. FHRAI is dedicated to working collaboratively with industry members and government bodies to ensure a thriving hospitality sector that meets the evolving needs of both consumers and professionals.
- In line with Dubai government’s ambitious strategyto increase real estate transactions to AED 1Trillion by 2033
Dubai – 22 October 2024: In a strategic move to harness untapped financial avenues, investment advisors Medallion Associates have unveiled its Institutional Investor Desk, aiming to capitalize on the thriving Dubai real estate market. With property transactions soaring by 32% and sales value climbing by 23%, this initiative comes at a pivotal moment for the city’s post-pandemic recovery. The resurgence of Dubai's real estate sector reflects a broader global demand for real estate, bolstered by proactive regulatory reforms from the Dubai government and the Dubai Land Department (DLD). As the market continues to evolve, Medallion’s Institutional Investor Desk seeks to align with the government’s ambitious Real Estate Sector Strategy 2033, which aims to raise real estate transactions in Dubai to AED 1 trillion, while doubling the sector’s contribution to economic diversification.. The ”Desk”is expected to be a cornerstone of the visionary Dubai Economic Agenda D33, initiated by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of the UAE. The “Desk” will focus on enhancing access to institutional capital by collaborating with investment consultants, advisors, and placement agents. By building strong partnerships and networks, Medallion aims to elevate its credibility in the market and facilitate greater investment flow into Dubai. Masood Al Awar, CEO of Medallion Associates, highlights the current investment landscape: “Dubai real estate industry has been something of an underachiever when it comes to attracting institutional investment. Despite controlling a staggering USD 120 trillion in global assets, institutional investors have only allocated USD 52 billion to Dubai. Our goal is to change that narrative and draw more of this investment to our vibrant market.” The Medallion Institutional Investor Desk will also offer bespoke investment mandates and separately managed accounts (SMAs) tailored to align with specific risk-return profiles and liquidity needs of investors. This personalized approach will ensure that institutional partners can confidently invest in Dubai’s dynamic real estate sector, maximizing their returns while mitigating risks. Dubai consistently outperforms other leading real estate markets, offering rental yields as high as 9%. Its favorable tax environment—characterized by the absence of property and capital gains taxes—makes it one of the most attractive destinations for real estate investment. Yet, Medallion’s analysis indicates that the real estate industry has captured only a small fraction of the institutional investment potential, a challenge the new Desk is poised to address. Al Awar emphasizes Dubai’s unique advantages: “The post-COVID investment landscape of the present offers few opportunities that match what Dubai has to offer. Our mission at Medallion is to transform these advantages into concrete results, driving enduring institutional investment flows that will benefit our economy now and in the future.” Through its Institutional Investor Desk, Medallion Associates aims to be at the forefront of enhancing Dubai's appeal to institutional investors. By building strategic partnerships and providing tailored investment solutions, Medallion is committed to ensuring that the city fully realizes its potential in the global real estate arena.

Zoomark has boosted its International Buyers Program, adding new activities designed to "guarantee the presence of a growing number of selected top buyers from the main and emerging markets, thus helping connect supply and demand", explained Bersanetti. The programme includes the addition of dedicated services to encourage direct interaction between buyers and exhibitors. Thanks to our B2Match matchmaking platform, buyers and companies will be able to prepare for the show in advance, and plan and manage their personal schedule of meetings. Our partnership with the offices of the Italian Trade Agency in key pet industry markets will bring more international buyers to Bologna. At Zoomark 2025, delegations of buyers, retailers and distributors from the main markets will be primed to meet exhibitors to work on distribution proposals and solutions. Bersanetti concluded: "We have arranged special welcome and hospitality packages in Bologna during the event. The focal point for all the activities planned for buyers will naturally be the VIP & Buyers Lounge, a meeting place and networking hub that has always been much appreciated." Zoomark 2025 is already shaping up to be a great success: the place to be to tap into the buzz and the innovative, dynamic outlook of the pet industry.

- A Content Campaign to Elevate Slovenia's Visibility as a Unique, Inspiring and Sustainable Destination
This year's content campaign, in partnership with eleven renowned online media outlets, will showcase Slovenia as an attractive, inspiring and sustainable destination across seven international markets. The focus this year lies on highlighting stories centred around arts and culture. In line with its strategic plan, the Slovenian Tourist Board (STB) will continue to prioritize content marketing in 2024. By using advanced technologies and digital tools, this approach is crucial for promoting Slovenia and enhancing its visibility, reputation and appeal as a tourist destination among selected target groups. Recently launched, the campaign in reputable global online media outlets with extensive reach in key markets aims to serve as an umbrella promotion of Slovenia as an inspiring, boutique and sustainable destination that offers unique, personalized experiences. Through visually captivating content articles and dynamic digital guides, Slovenia will be prominently featured in various media outlets. In Austria in Der Standard and Kurier; in Germany in Focus and Welt; in Italy in the online edition of Corriere della Sera; in France in Le Figaro and Le Monde; in the United Kingdom in The Guardian and BBC; and in the Nordic markets in Berlingske in Denmark and Iltalehti in Finland. The primary objectives of this advertising campaign are to enhance awareness of Slovenia as a boutique, sustainable and inclusive tourist destination among high-end guests, while also inspiring and motivating (the so-called consideration) target segments to increase the likelihood of choosing Slovenia as their preferred travel destination. As a supportive goal aligned with the overarching communication theme of Arts and Culture for 2024 , the aim is to elevate Slovenia’s visibility as a modern, creative and attractive cultural tourism destination. This includes highlighting rich cultural heritage and showcasing renowned artists and inspiring events year-round. To achieve this, the STB is working with the editors to create new online stories that emphasize this important theme. The content campaign complements and strengthens other promotional activities in the targeted countries, sparking guests' interest in the key products of Slovenian tourism: historical cities and culture – this year with a special emphasis on arts and culture – active outdoor holidays, health and well-being and gastronomy . Within the articles, links to landing pages and stories on the slovenia.info are incorporated. This approach allows readers to discover even more quality information, tips, and experiences to enrich their future holidays in Slovenia. A distinctive feature of this year's campaign is its dual focus: in addition to special articles showcasing Slovenia as a unique destination for arts and culture, the campaign partly serves as a reactivation . In the second half of 2023, the STB closely worked with the production teams of these very same media outlets to create 55 high-quality articles and landing pages about Slovenia, all adhering to the latest content marketing trends. Throughout the campaign's duration, an impressive 63 million views and 186,000 reads were achieved. This year, content is presented in a refreshed format, supported by a carefully crafted media plan targeting select audiences and distributed through established media channels. By partnering with prominent European online media for a campaign that will run until December, the STB strategically engages with a market segment of discerning visitors seeking diverse and active experiences, serenity and personal fulfillment. The campaign invites environmentally conscious and responsible guests who appreciate authenticity and local character, while also encouraging visits during the less busy months of the year and promoting the dispersion of tourist flows across all four macro-regions and various destinations.
- Revenue growth of organised luggage makers to halve to 8-10%
Operating profitability to dip 30-50 bps; controlled debt to aid credit profiles India’s organised lug gage industry will see revenue growth reduce to 8-10% this fiscal from ~18% last fiscal, primarily due to a high base, as industry size almost doubled between fiscals 2022 and 2024. Demand remains stab le, backed by continued penetration of hard luggage, steady tourism and corporate travel. However, realisati ons have reduced due to two factors. First, increasing competition among manufacturers with the entry of new players a nd, second, increased inventory levels due to moderation in volume growth, which has led to aggressive pricing a nd impacted average selling prices, mainly in the economy segment. With falling realisatio ns, operating margin dipped 150 basis points (bps) in fiscal 2024 and will drop a further 30-50 bps between 13.5- 14.0% this fiscal. The impact would have been higher but for increased contribution from own manufactured har d luggage segment, as against imports, and stable raw material prices. Nonetheless, inventory r ationalisation during this fiscal will limit any further downside on average selling prices and reliance on external debt, which will support credit profiles over the medium term. A CRISIL Ratings ana lysis of the luggage makers it rates, accounting for ~85% of the organised sector’s Rs 7,800 crore revenue, indicates as much. The Indian luggage industr y is dominated by a few large organised players, which have increased domestic capacity and backward integrate d over the last three fiscals, while the unorganised sector remains largely dependent on China for its requirements. A strategic shift of lugga ge makers to own hard luggage manufacturing segment is reflected in imports growing slower (than industry) at ~5% i n the past five years. Says Himank Sharm a, Director, CRISIL Ratings, “Rising preference for hard luggage and better quality at competitive prices ha s benefited organised players, with their share in Indian luggage industry increasing to ~45% this fiscal. How ever, risks are rising, too, as tapering of growth after three years of double-digit runup and rising competition f rom new entrants will lead to higher promotional expenses and, thereby, moderation in margins. ” That said, some s upport is expected from stable prices of raw materials – polypropylene, polycarbonate, and polyamide, which comprise 40-45% of the cost for luggage makers – even as continued consumer preference towards hard luggage aids op erating efficiency. The inventory level , which rose to 114 days in fiscal 2024 on account of moderation in demand, is on the mend and is expected to mod erate to 100-105 days for this full fiscal. Debtors remain stab le, indicating the control of organised players over their sales channels even as they expand retail networks to Tier 2 an d 3 cities. This will lead to lower reliance on short-term borrowings by the luggage makers. Given continued balance sheet strength, steady demand and almost-full capacity utilisation, the players are expected to further increase th e manufacturing capacity for hard luggage.
- European apples remain a firm favourite with Middle Eastern consumers
European apple exports to the Middle East continue to remain popular due to their exceptional quality, diverse varieties, superior taste, consistency and year-round availability Luxury retailers, hotels, gourmet dining establishments, and health-conscious consumers seeking premium, nutritious produce are all driving the demand. The European Union, in partnership with Interfel, the French fresh fruit and vegetable organisation, has launched a series of promotional activities to showcase European apples across the region throughout 2024 and 2025. Dubai, United Arab Emirates, 9 October 2024: A campaign to promote European apples is proving to be so fruitful in the Middle East region that the European Union and the French National Apple will be undertaking a third successive export campaign, with French apples taking centre stage. The campaign aims to highlight European apple production's exceptional quality, variety , and eco-friendly practices, with a particular focus on apples from France. Despite global agricultural challenges, the 2024 French apple harvest has remained stable, reaching 1.463 million tonnes. “French apples have long been appreciated for their taste and quality, and this year’s harvest is no different. The apples' excellent shape and outstanding quality have made them popular with consumers and food professionals in the region,” said Daniel Sauvaitre, a fruit grower from Charente and president of the French Fruits and Vegetables Trade Association Interfel in France. While the mainstay varieties such as Royal Gala, Granny Smith, Golden Delicious, and Red Apples remain popular, there has been a noticeable surge in demand for club varieties gaining momentum in the Middle Eastern market, including Juliet, Pink Lady, Candine, Candine Organic, Joya, Pixie, Story (Lolipop), Kissabel, and Coeur de Reine. “These specialised apples are gaining ground, reflecting a shift in consumer preferences towards distinct flavours and high-quality products,” added Sauvaitre. One of the highlights of French apple production is its eco-conscious approach. Since 2010, French apples have carried the "eco-friendly orchards" label, representing 1 million tonnes of apples grown sustainably, resonating strongly in the Middle East, where eco-friendly products are gaining increasing importance. To further support French apple exports, a series of promotional activities will take place across the GCC during the remainder of 2024 and into H1 2025, following the success of similar initiatives during the last two years. Last season’s campaign included over 443 in-store tasting sessions across the GCC in 182 outlets between October and March, featuring sampling, gondola brandings, and digital promotions in major retailers such as Lulu, Panda, Monoprix and Carrefour. These efforts ensured that French apples were featured across the Middle East, offering consumers enticing price promotions and exclusive gifts. In addition, the campaign also held six interactive French Apple Pop-Up events across Jeddah, Riyadh, Muscat, Doha, and Kuwait, as well as at the Taste of Dubai festival. A specialised training program was also introduced for retail professionals and chefs to enhance local expertise in French apple varieties. The program, led by the Best Craftsman in France, Catherine Botti and French Chef Jean-François Le Luherne, provided a unique opportunity for participants in Dubai to discover and learn more about French apple varieties and gain insights from industry experts. “Focusing on diversity and quality has positioned French apples as a favourite in the Middle East. With the European Union's support and the region's promotional activities, French apples are poised to remain a top choice for consumers and professionals alike,” concluded Sauvaitre.
